eBuddy Mobile Messenger is free. But your mobile operator may charge you for using mobile internet. Check your price-plan to see what you pay per MB of data usage.
You can use eBuddy Lite Messenger on the following devices:
It really depends on how actively you are chatting. Here's an indication on what a typical session with eBuddy Messenger could cost you:
20 minutes of intense chatting (about 50 lines): 0.06-0.08 MB
60 minutes online with little activity: 0.03-0.05 MB
This indication is for when your mobile operator supports 'socket connections'. Most mobile operators do so. If your operator doesn't support socket connections, the data usage may be more.
The Lite Messenger supports MSN, Yahoo, AIM and GTalk.
Since we know that Mobile Internet can still be very expensive in most cases, we have made sure that the data-usage is as low as possible. There are still many mobile operators that charge as much as €5.- ($7.-) per MB. Not really an incentive to start using mobile internet…. Here is an example if you pay € 5 per MB: with the typical data usage this could cost you:
20 minutes of intense chatting (about 50 lines): € 0.30 - € 0.40
60 minutes online with little activity: € 0.15 - €0.25
This can be more if your mobile operator doesn't support 'socket connections'.
Either way: Check your price-plan to see what you pay per MB of data usage!
No. The Lite Messenger runs in the browser, you do not have to download or install anything.

The eBuddy Mobile Messenger will work with most phones that don't date back to the old days when phones still had antennas and black and white screens. If your phone is brand new, it might be the case that we have not added it to our database yet.
Here you can check if your phone is supported.
You can also just surf to http://get.ebuddy.com on your mobile phone. This will take you to the downloadpage. If your phone is recognised correctly and supported, you can immediately download the eBuddy Mobile Messenger. Alternatively, you will have to choose your phone brand and type. If your phone is not in the list, we don't support it yet.
Older phones can always use eBuddy Mobile Internet: http://m.ebuddy.com. Less fancy, but very practical.
Make sure that you entered the correct country and phone number. Leave out the 0 (zero) that your phone number starts with. If you still do not receive the text message, let us know.
Alternatively, point your mobile browser to http://get.ebuddy.com to reach the download page.
The text message contains a link to download the eBuddy Mobile Messenger. Scroll down to the link to highlight it, then click on it or select Options->Open. Your phone's web browser will then load the mobile web page from which you will be able to download the eBuddy Mobile Messenger.
Check if you can use mobile internet: surf to eBuddy.com with the mobile phone browser. If this is not possible, your mobile internet settings are not correct. Click here for settings. You can also receive the correct internet connection settings for free from the following phone manufacturers:
Some phones do not support the download link and will only work if you type the URL http://get.ebuddy.com in your mobile browser and choose 'No success? Click here'.
If you cannot access the internet with your phone, even with the correct settings, contact your telecom service provider. Sometimes they need to activate it for you.The security dialog comes up whenever you try to install an application on your cell phone and means that the certificates used by eBuddy are not consistent with the certificates in your phone. It is in no way a security risk to your mobile.
Some mobile phones let you choose to install applications on either the phone memory or an external memory card. It doesn’t matter which one you choose.
This is very different per phone. You will find the eBuddy Mobile Messenger in one of the following locations: My Own, Applications, Installed, Games or Java applications.
If your memory is full, clear some space by erasing an application. Once there is sufficient space, try downloading eBuddy again.
The best way to connect to the mobile internet is via a 'socket connection'. This is what the eBuddy Mobile Messenger tries first. If this fails, it automatically tries to set up a HTTP connection, which is less fast, but is still very good.
- Make sure that you allow the application to go online, even if it asks you several times.
- Apart from mobile internet settings, your phone may need separate JAVA settings. These are the same as the mobile internet settings but sometimes need to be entered separately. Click here for more instructions or check your phone manual on how to do this.
- Unfortunately, there are mobile operators that do not believe in open mobile internet and shut down any other traffic than their own mobile portal. This is something we cannot influence.
As a default security, some mobile phones do not allow JAVA clients (like the eBuddy Mobile Messenger) to access the internet at all. You can allow access; it is usually in the JAVA- Games-, or Application settings menu. It is best to check your phone manual on how to do this. On Nokia phones go into the application settings, sometimes called "Application Manager" and set network access to "ask first time only".
The eBuddy Mobile Messenger needs to check the internet regularly. Mobile phones ask for permission when an application enters the internet. You can disable this warning so that it only asks permission when you start it up. It is usually in the JAVA- Games-, or Application settings menu. It is best to check your phone manual on how to do this. On Nokia phones go into the application settings, sometimes called "Application Manager" and set network access to "ask first time only".
In the buddylist screen, select the network where you want to add a buddy, press Options and select Add buddy.
Yes. You can log in with MSN, Yahoo and AIM and chat with contacts from each of the networks
Select the contact from your buddylist, press Options and select View profile.
The eBuddy – icon in front of the contact indicates the status
Each conversation is visible in a tab at the top of your screen. With the left and right buttons on your phone you can navigate between conversations.
Select one of the contacts from your buddylist and press Chat. Send a message to start the conversation. Now press Conf. and Select one or more contacts that you want to add to this conversation and press Invite.
This will open the group conversation in a separate tab. If you have multiple conversations open, you might not see the new tab opening so make sure you scroll to the rightmost tab.
In the buddylist screen, the network icon is grey and a red icon with a white X is displayed.
Phone calls take precedence over eBuddy. If you are on eBuddy and a phone call comes through, your eBuddy session will be put on hold and you can continue with eBuddy after the call.
Yes. You will still receive all calls and text messages and eBuddy is designed to use minimal internet traffic from your operator.
Because you now can login to multiple networks, you can choose a status that can be displayed to all your buddies in each of the different networks.
Make sure that sound is on, both in de eBuddy Mobile Messenger (on the main settings-page) and on your phone.
In some phones, you may need to need to allow sounds for Java applications in the Java settings menu.
That's correct. The phone only vibrates when you receive a Buzz.
There are many phones that will not allow vibration from an external application. Most Nokia phones do not support vibration, even though it will vibrate when you get an incoming call. If your Motorola does not vibrate, go to the Java Settings and activate 'Global Buzzing'
